RECOVERED RIVER CYPRESS (Taxodium distichum)

Recovered from swamps of the Mississippi, these cypress logs fell naturally due to beaver habits, wind shears, lightning tempers, or axed men. These timbers have been preserved and infused with mineral rich waters from the Mississippi river drainage. Expect light and dark browns, greens, purples, and crimson reds to complement unmatched grain tightness and quality. These are by far our oldest timbers, some of these trees started off as sprouts more than 1500 years ago. Our recovered river cypress provides a durable and rot resistant flooring, paneling, siding, and cabinet material, and although it is much harder than fresh cypress it is still somewhat soft. Pecky Cypress is formed in mature trees over 125 years old and is caused by the fungus Stereum taxodil. This fungus forms vertical tubular pockets creating hollow pockets in mature trees. Pecky cypress is a rare and demanded decorative wood used in ceiling and wall paneling.
